why we still live in america.

why we still live in america.

last year, i heard about this great vacation opportunity. now since phish and i rarely go on vacation, i was very excited when we heard that not only was this a great vacation, but it was virtually free! in fact, we would even get paid to go. This sounded way too good to be true, so i quickly called up to reserve a spot. granted there was a lot of paperwork to fill out for a simple vacation…but to israel? it was a dream come true.

the problem was that when I got to the organization’s name to send in the vacation application, I realized that something was amiss.

I had to send a registration check with all the forms…and the organization’s name was Nofesh v’No-phish.

now, i teach hebrew so i wasn’t thrown by this at all, and unfortunately it made perfect sense to me.

nofesh means vacation…just what Phish and I wanted!

but no-phish? whats the point of going on vacation, if i cant go with phish? granted, i love eretz yisrael a lot more than he does, and i miss it even more than he does…and probably love eretz yisrael even more than him…but i’m not going to go on vacation without him.

i explained this all very clearly in my vacation application letter to nBn, and it took a few weeks for them to get back me.

the slightly annoying lady who called me back from nBn was laughing so hard that I just told her I would find my own way to get to Israel on vacation. we’d even show them by moving there, and we didn't need their stupid vacation.

i saw an ad last week in the paper for the sochnut, which means "agency", perhaps we can use this travel agency to get us there faster than nBn.

so, here we are, still living somewhere in new york, without any decent kosher pizza, and I hope we’ll be able to make it to Israel soon.
